On behalf of the Seabrook Library, I would like to thank those who made our summer reading program a success. Since I am the sole children’s librarian, it is only the generosity of all of these people and companies that has made a reality out of what I planned.

Some made formal donations and provided programs, others simply jumped in to help wherever they could. Many companies made donations: Wal-Mart, Shaw’s and Bob’s Discount Furniture have assisted us financially for several years now. Topsfield Fair provided prizes this year and last year. New donors, Ringling Bros. & Barnum & Bailey, Southwick’s Zoo, Franklin Zoo and Great American Country Store provided prizes as well. That’s Very Fun provided beautiful cakes for our parties. Seabrook Station increased their regular generous donation to sponsor the entertainment for our final party.

The individuals who graciously agreed to my requests for programs were Marie Fe Simmons, Rajae Taib and Yi Ning Frost. Kim Kelly helped with all three and at other times as well. Laura Litcofsky has volunteered continually behind the scenes. So many other people have leaped in on request or simply because they saw a need: Nicolas Batista, Brandie Gaffney, Sally Johnson, Brandon LePere, Ana Manfredonia, Gina McGinness, Sheryl Peabody, Mikki Phillips, Jennifer Price, Debbie Simonelli, Jackie Snow, and I know there were more who I didn't see or who my faulty brain is not bringing up.

The LAST Week for Kids--End of "One World, Many Stories"

Monday at 3:30--Movie Time! Come enjoy a short Russian movie (no, it's not in Russian or subtitled) with free popcorn.

Tuesday at 4:00--Stuffed Animal Sleepover! Bring your second-favorite stuffed animal to the library (please do NOT bring the one animal you can't go to sleep without!). We'll read a story or two, then you'll make a nametag for your stuffed friend and wave goodbye. The animals will sleep in the library (and play and read and...) and you will be able to pick them up on Wednesday at the Final Party along with a book of their adventures.

Wednesday at 3:30--Final Party with Toe Jam Puppet Band! This is it: the end of "One World, Many Stories"! Please bring your reading logs in the day before so that I can have prizes ready for the party. Feel free to bring non-participants--there will be treats and fun for everyone. Toe Jam Puppet Band is a really funny, really active, really crazy set of "Big Kids" who will throw things, shout things, play with puppets, sing, and much more!

Friday at 11:00--If the weather is nice, we'll do a Story Walk over at the Rec Center. Come take a nice slow walk and hear a story too :)

If anyone is able to help with the Final Party, I will need treat and juice servers, free book hander-outers, and certificate hander-outers. This is the fun stuff :) If you'd like to help, email or call or visit me.

This Week for Kids: Aug. 1-5

Monday at 3:30--Movie Time! Enjoy the true stories of two Russian families in air-conditioned comfort with friends.

Tuesday 3-5pm: Russian Games. Outdoor Russian fun! Have you ever played Cat and Mice? How about Wizards or Boiare? Come out and play.

Wednesday 6pm: Pajama Story Time. Wear your jammies and bring a stuffedanimal. We'll do a craft first, then listen to stories, sing songs,do rhymes... This is an all ages drop in story time.

Thursday 1-4pm: Matryoshka Doll Workshop with Russian Artist Marina Forbes. Find out how Matryoshka dolls are made and watch a slide show. Listen to Russian music, see some Russian dance, and paint your own doll! There is a materials fee for this program--you must buy the doll from Ms. Forbes ($10 and up). Please call or email to sign up.

Friday at 11: Jenn's Stories. Punk Farm on Tour! And a craft, of course. This is an all ages drop in story time.

Please remember that the Summer Reading Program ends on August 10 and I need your reading logs BEFORE the Final Party in order to deal with prizes--preferably on Tuesday the 9th. Read read read! We now have more donated prizes as well...so don't stop yet!

This Week for Kids: JUly 25-29

Today (Monday) at 3:30--Movie Time! Enjoy the true stories of two Chinese families in air-conditioned comfort with friends.

Tuesday at 3pm: Chinese Dumplings and Stories. Yi Ning Frost will explain how to make Chinese dumplings and give you one to taste-test :) She also has fairy tales in Chinese and I have gathered the English versions, so you'll get to hear how they compare. PLEASE CALL AND SIGN UP--we really want to have enough dumplings for everyone!

Wednesday 2-4pm: Around the World Games. Many of our favorite games come from somewhere far away: Parcheesi, Mancala, Legos, Pick-Up Sticks and many more. Come play!
6pm: Pajama Story Time. Wear your jammies and bring a stuffed animal. We'll do a craft first, then listen to stories, sing songs, do rhymes... This is an all ages drop in story time.

Thursday at 3pm: Around the World Race. Make a team to fly paper airplanes, make volcanoes, mini-golf, interpret languages and more! If you can help out with this, I still need at least 5 people! All you have to do is stand there and explain; perhaps give a hand to a small team :)

Friday at 11: Jenn's Stories. I'm sorry for the misinformation before--THIS week will be penguins! And a craft, of course. This is an all ages drop in story time.
3:30pm: Movie. The world is huge and there's a lot of people. What if it were just a village of 100? Free popcorn, as always :)

Desiree Wong of the Chinese Cultural Center is going to bring in a snapshot of China: a little calligraphy, a few Chinese words, some New Year's traditions, maybe a bit of tai chi... Monday, 6:30pm: A World of Stories and a Drum… But wait, have you flown by broom stick? Have you traveled on the back of a giant? Have you crossed continents in Five League Boots, or whole countries on a flying carpet? This is truly traveling the world in style, so why not travel with British award winning storyteller Simon Brooks (and his bodhran) to places far away in a different time and space?

Wednesday at 6pm: Pajama Story Time. Wear your jammies and bring a stuffed buddy for story time! We'll do things opposite of the usual order--craft FIRST, then stories to wind down. This is a drop-in story time for all ages. P.S. Shoes are REQUIRED--Sorry, it's public health code.
