New! Children's Room Computer

The Children's Room now has its own computer! Only children ages 12 and under will be allowed to use it, so when you pick up your tag at the main desk, a librarian will log on for you. It is connected to the internet and has plenty of table space for your homework beside it. If homework isn't really what you'd like to do, we are in the process of loading a variety of educational games onto it which will be available either on the computer directly or on discs you may ask to borrow. A complete listing of those games will be available soon, along with a listing of helpful sites for homework.

Family Resource Connection

Family Resource Connection, a service of the New Hampshire State Library, has just sent us a new listing of their materials! They have thousands of resources on family topics like parenting, children's health, education, child care, adoption, pregnancy and many others--including materials in Spanish. There are books, videos, even curriculum kits and Reading Together kits! We have a listing of quite a few of their topics and you can find a complete list online.

As a resident of New Hampshire, you can borrow from them for free! Not only that, but they will send materials either through the library or directly to your house with return postage provided.

How to make a request: You may call the Family Resource Connection's toll free number 1-800-298-4321. If you reach voicemail, leave your name, full address and telephone number along with your request. You may also make your request via email at FRC@dcr.nh.gov or by using FRC online request form.

Please visit their website or come over the children's area and browse the big binder on the Parent/Educator's Shelf.

online searching: Time Magazine opens its archives

Thanks to the NH State Library for pointing out that Time Magazine has now made its archives, back to 1923, available online for free.

Students and others simply interested in the past can browse through covers, search for content, and take advantage of the rather cool "Collections" feature that Time has developed, which allows you to look at the covers of Time around certain themes like religion, presidents, or music, as well as grouping articles about everything from baseball greats to the Lindbergh kidnapping to the evolution of education together in easy to browse web pages.
