July 1-5 for Kids at the Library

If you *haven't* signed your child up yet for "Dig Into Reading", please come in and do it so that they can win prizes :)  Everything's free.

Monday (today!) at 3:30:  Afternoon Experiment--Recycled Seed Starters.  Do you need a pot to grow seeds?  How about dirt?  Find out!  This one is messy...

Tuesday 10:30-5:30:  Drop In Craft:  Trolls and Gnomes.  Make a traveling buddy out of clay, yarn, rhinestones and googly eyes.

Wednesday 3:00:  Wonder Book Group (4th-8th graders).
          6:00:  Cave Stories (all ages drop in story time)

Thursday--CLOSED!  Happy Fourth of July!

Friday at 3:30:  Growums Gardens.  This program is full up and then some, but if you already signed up, please don't forget to come in!

Oh yes, and we have excellent AC :)  Come hang out in comfort!

April Vacation Week For Kids



 Mon, 10am-12pm: Earth Day Rail Trail Cleanup! 
Bring a rake; trashbags and water provided.

 
Tue, 12-1pm: Picnic Day
Bring lunch; juice boxes and games provided.


 Wed, 3:00pm:  Pig in a Blanket Day: 
Taste test various “pigs” and“blankets”.  


 
Thu, 3:30pm:  Movie Time!  
 Watch a new movie.  Free popcorn!


Fri, 1-5pm: Drop In Craft: May Day Baskets.

February Vacation Week for Kids



 Monday, 10am-12pm—Kids Can Stitch.  Find out how to decorate with stitches—you’ll have something to take home at the end.

Ages 8+.  Sign-up required. 

  







Tuesday, 1-5pm—Game Day.  Board games and Wii games will be out to play.
  
 Wednesday, 2:00pm—Polar Bear Day.  A polar movie and popcorn!

Thursday, 11am and 4pm—Bingo!  Play for prizes. 

 Friday, 1-5pm—Peanut Lovers’ Day.  Make PB-based bird/animal feeders for your outdoor friends.

 Make a love bug for someone special!  It's an easy craft and you can drop in any time between 1 and 5pm to do it.  Show some love :)

Monday, July 23 at 3:30pm:  Movie Time!  This is one of my favorite movies with the cutest hero ever.  Popcorn, as always, is included :)

Wednesday, July 25 at 6:00pm:  Owls of the World--Whoo's Watching You? with Eyes on Owls.  Teacher/naturalist Marcia Wilson and author/photographer/naturalist Mark Wilson introduce you to the owls of New England and beyond. Learn field marks, signs and skills that you can use to find wild owls.  Meet six live owls up close!  Get a hooting lesson and learn how to attract and protect owls near you.

Thursday, July 26 1:00-5:00pm:  Drop In Craft:  Firefly Jars.  In case imprisoning bugs isn't for you, here's a glowing jar just for you!

Friday, July 27 at 11:00am:  Story Time.  This is an all ages drop in story time with songs, stories, flannelboard stories, rhymes and a craft.

Please come to see the owls--this is an awesome and very rare opportunity!

Wednesday, July 18 at 6:00pm:  PJ Story Time.  Wear your jammies and bring a stuffed friend for an evening story time that's all about night time and bed!  I will provide plastic jackets if our craft/activity is particularly messy--so don't worry about ruining your favorite jammies :)  

This is an all ages drop in story time--bring friends!

Thursday, July 19 1:00-5:00pm:  Drop In Craft:  Flying UFO.  If you'd like, you can even put an alien or two inside...

Friday, July 13 at 11:00am:  Story Time.  This is an all ages drop in story time with songs, stories, flannelboard stories, rhymes and a craft.

July 9-13 for Kids

Ok, this week we have a really cool option for the older kids--please look closely at the Rockets program! 

Tuesday, July 10 at 3:00pm & 4:00pm:  Rockets:  There and Back again with the Boston Museum of Science.  Create an air rocket that launches across the room, and engineer a way for a payload to return safely to Earth. This hands-on workshop explores the science behind rockets and space exploration. Use your imagination to plan, build, and test your own design. 
Ages 6 and up. Children 10 and younger must be accompanied.
You must SIGN UP for this--they have given me a limit, so please call or email!

July 2-6 for Kids

Happy Fourth of July! Don't forget sparklers and going to fireworks and parades... 

Monday, July 2 at 3:00pm: Star Wars Party! We'll have Yoda cupcakes (oh yes, you get to assemble your own!), pin the light saber on the Jedi, Jedi mind training and more... costumes are encouraged :)  

Thursday, July 5 1:00-5:00pm: Drop In Craft: Pillowcase Stamping. If we're going to dream, let's make it fun to go to bed! I'll have some cool spacy stamps and fabric paint, you bring a blank pillowcase! If you don't have a pillowcase you're willing to sacrifice, please let me know and we'll find one!  

Friday, June 29 at 11:00am: Story Time. This is an all ages drop in story time with songs, stories, flannelboard stories, rhymes and a craft.

Mon: Movie Theater Day! Movies all day long, starting with little kids’ cartoons and ending with movies for grown-ups. Call for titles.

Tue: Spring Astronomy Week. Make a constellation finder for April stars.

Wed: Library Club for 1st, 2nd, 3rd graders: World Penguin Day! 3:30-4:30

Thu, 3:30pm: Fabulous Frogs! SIGN UP to see live frogs and learn about the ones in your backyard!

Fri: Arbor Day. Weave a tree out of yarn, fabric, raffia, ribbons….

Dec. 12-16 for Kids

Monday, Dec. 12 at 3:30: Lego Builders--The Christmas Edition. Come build something for Santa to deliver, to ride in, to live at.... You'll have 50 minutes to build and 10 minutes to show it off and get your picture taken.

Tuesday, Dec. 13, 1-5: Drop In Christmas Craft--Cinnamon Dough Ornaments. This is the best-smelling craft ever! Mix your dough, cut out shapes and take them home to dry.

Wednesday, Dec. 14, 6pm: Polar Express Story Time! Old Time Radio star Don Bagley returns to read wonderful Christmas stories while you enjoy Starbucks hot chocolate. After the stories, children will receive a bell, a stocking and a book.

Thursday, Dec. 15, 3:30pm: Family Christmas Movie Time. Watch your favorite Christmas specials (a double feature if they're short!) with friends while eating popcorn and drinking hot chocolate.

The Library for Kids: Dec. 6-9

Tuesday, Dec. 6, 1-5pm: Drop In Christmas Craft. Stop by the library any time between 1 and 5 to make a Christmas ornament or gift or decoration. Take it home and set it out or hide it til Christmas!

Wednesday, Dec. 7, 6pm: Family Christmas Story Time. Stories about Santa, reindeer, elves, presents, surprises, family... Wear your jammies and bring your family--this is an all ages drop in story time that will end with a craft. (even if you're wearing jammies, you MUST wear shoes)

Thursday, Dec. 8, 3:30pm: Family Christmas Movie. Come watch your favorite Christmas specials on the big screen with your friends while you eat popcorn and drink hot chocolate. If they're short, it'll be a double feature!

1st, 2nd and 3rd graders are invited to: A fun Christmas story or two will be followed by a gift-box making challenge: make a Santa, an elf, a reindeer, a monster... Take it home and give it to an unsuspecting friend!

It's the Great Pumpkin Party!

We're having our fourth annual "It's the Great Pumpkin Party"!

Make a pumpkin craft: we'll make "stained glass" pumpkins you can hang in your window at home.

Make a pumpkin cookie: We'll provide plain pumpkin-shaped cookies--YOU have to turn it into...a jack-o-lantern? Who knows? We'll give you bits and pieces, you make your own treat.

Drink apple cider: Cider Hill is generously giving us apple cider for the third year in a row! What great sports :)

Watch a movie: It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown. Of course!

This Week for Kids: July 18-22

Please note that this week there is NO PJ STORY TIME.


Monday at 3:30pm: Movie Time. Watch a movie on the big screen in air-conditioned comfort with free popcorn! Bring friends... :) Call or email for the title: 474-2044, lmichaud@sealib.org

Tuesday, 3-5pm: Chinese Crafts and Games. Make a kite, make a shuttlecock, learn to play “Hopping Chicken", run a chopstick relay…


Wednesday at 6:30pm: All About China--with Desiree Wong. Desiree Wong of the Chinese Cultural Center is going to bring in a snapshot of China: a little calligraphy, a few Chinese words, some New Year's traditions, maybe a bit of tai chi... Thursday, 1-5pm: Drop In Craft--Suncatchers. Perhaps your room is too tame...add some wildness with an animal suncatcher to hang in the window!









Friday at 11am: Jenn's Stories. Jenn from TDBank is back with more stories and puppet shows! She'll read or do a show and then you'll get to make a craft to take home. This is an all ages drop in story time.

Story Times End, February Vacation Week Begins!

This is the last week of story times for this session. There will be a two week break before we start up again. Watch for notices here, posters in the library, notes on our Facebook page, and hopefully notice in the newspaper.

February Vacation Week Activities for Kids:
If you want to use one of our museum passes for this week, call and reserve it now!

Monday--We are closed for President's Day.

Tuesday--3-5pm: Movie Time. Not watch a movie, MAKE a movie! You can use our puppets and puppet theater, your actor friends, or just yourself to tell a story. I will be recording your creative masterpieces so that you can watch them later.

Wednesday--3:30-4:30pm: Lego Builders. Build something presidential! Ok, Secret Service and military stuff counts too :) You'll have 50 minutes to build, then 10 minutes to tell everyone about it and get your picture taken.

Thursday--11-12: Tropical Thursday! For this morning hour, we'll be making leis, decorating sun visors, drinking pineapple juice and snacking on goldfish...crackers :)

3-4pm: Indoor Tide Pool! Seacoast Science Center is going to bring a bunch of their little marine friends to visit us. Learn about, and then TOUCH urchins, crabs, sea stars and more.

Upcoming Excitement

4th, 5th and 6th graders:
This Thursday at 6pm is the second Great Stone Face and Pizza! Bring back the books you chose last time, get your pins, pick new books, eat Papa Gino's pizza, read and write reviews on the library's blog! This time, we'll meet in the meeting room instead of in the story time room :)

It's the third annual "It's the Great Pumpkin Party"!
Everyone is welcome in the meeting room--we'll make cute stuffed pumpkins. Then you'll have a chance to pick a pumpkin book to check out before we all sit down to pumpkin donuts (Thank you, Dunkin Donuts!!) and apple cider while watching "It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown"!

What's next for kids?


Monday, 3:40-5:20--Paws 4 Reading! There are two spaces left, 4:00 and 4:20, to read to our St. Bernard Reading Therapy dog. If you like a good listener who's a little on the furry side, Aspen's your dog! Practice reading, practice reading out loud, or read for fun :)







Tuesday, 1-5pm--Drop In Craft, Scarecrow Magnet. Drop in any time to make a really cute scarecrow to hold your pictures on the fridge.



The rest of the week has the usual story times: Tuesday at 10:30 for 1-2 yr. olds, Wednesday at 3:00 for 4-6 yr. olds, Thursday at 11:00 for 2-3 yr. olds, and Friday at 11:00 for 3-4 yr. olds.
